If the speculations are true, this is a very significant partnership for everyone involved. Not only has the mega chain mainly worked with luxury companies better known than Margiela in the past (like Versace and Marni), but the niche label is the total opposite of everything fast fashion stands for. Originally founded by media shy Belgium designer Martin Margiela and now controlled by Renzo Rosso (also behind Diesel and DSquared), the brand is famous for avant-garde designs that are sought after by industry insiders who want to wear what no one else is wearing.
Signature pieces from the triple M include booties that resemble goat feet and sharp-shouldered jackets, both super specific looks that, done right, could maybe be really amazing at H&M. Should this actually happen, you can also expect a lot of asymmetrical dresses in a simple, subtle palette of neutrals.
What do make of the possible pairing of H&M and Maison Martin Margiela? Will two total opposites equal something incredible, or do you think the French fashion house is too esoteric for the masses? Let us know in the comments below!
