Marc Jacobs may have had to show his contemporary Marc by Marc collection one day early—the result of his having to bump his signature show from Monday to Thursday due to customs issues—but the clothes showed no signs of a last-minute rush. Rather, his girls looked more grown-up than usual, sort of like sophisticated schoolgirls circa the 1970s.
In a palette ranging from deep rust to pale violet to royal blue, Jacobs showed a mix of retro wallpaper patterns, collegiate-chic plaid outerwear and crisp suiting separates that’d fit right in on campus. Meanwhile, his solid satin minidresses and colorful leaf-printed looks were too cool for school.
And can we discuss the models’ hair for a moment? Jacobs’ girls all sported teased-out-to-there waves framed by halos of frizz. As a naturally curly girl myself, I may just forgo my twice-annual Japanese straightening appointments until further notice.
