Earlier this year, delightfully offbeat Italian label Marni demonstrated its power to appeal to the mass market with a sold-out collection for H&M. Next February, it’s hoping fans might want to smell like the brand, too. Yep, Marni’s venturing into the world of fragrance, and it’s tailor-made for the girl who collects (or just simply covets) creative director Consuelo Castiglioni’s innovative clothing.
"It’s a perfume that’s quite individual, that doesn’t evoke anything in particular," Castiglioni told WWD. "It’s for a woman who dresses for herself, who doesn’t follow trends but is sophisticated and also maybe a little eccentric.” The scent, a blend of spicy and woody notes free of the usual fruits and florals found in many designer fragrances, will be packaged in a red-capped, round flacon reminiscent of a vintage bottle Castiglioni found two decades ago at a flea market. As for the polka dots covering the glass container? "Dots are part of our world," explained Castiglioni.
The fashion house’s debut fragrance will set you back $105 for a 65-ml. bottle, or $155 for the 120-ml. size. There’s also an accompanying body lotion, shower gel and body cream—but we’ll be picking up the $50 purse spray, which comes with a little fabric doll.
