Over the past few seasons, our workout attire has become more and more acceptable for use beyond the gym. As the trend skews more toward the runway than the locker room, designers are jumping at the opportunity to collaborate with athletic brands on stylish workout lines—Stella McCartney, Topshop and even Pharrell Williams have gotten in on the action with Adidas.
Next up: London-based designer Mary Katrantzou, widely recognized for her electric prints, who will collaborate with Adidas Originals on a "longterm partnership" of womenswear and footwear. The idea for this capsule collection, set to launch in November, came about when Adidas approached her last spring.
"As with any collaboration, it’s always interesting to see two creative minds combine," Katrantzou told Women’s Wear Daily. "It has been a learning curve and [Adidas] sharing their technical knowledge with us has been invaluable to creating this collection. After meeting with the team, I felt they really believed I would add something different to what they have already done in the past, and it was a great challenge for me creatively."
Well, our obsession with sneakers has officially reached new, Pokémon-esque levels: we have to catch ‘em all.
