Miss Taylor Swift has been bearing the brunt of the press for The Giver’s upcoming release (tomorrow!), and blatantly so. As the cast member with the most clout among the film’s target YA audience, Swift can—and should, honestly—be carted around from junket to junket to pique the interest of the prime tween market. But one player (aside from the perpetually groovy Jeff Bridges) who should be getting a comparable amount of pre-release spotlight is Meryl Streep.
The universally adored Streep is something of a silver screen whisperer, lending Oscar-cred and box office gold with what appears to be the barest of effort. But while her acting chops are, obviously, superior, her recent red carpet stylings merit a major kudos, too.
Earlier this week, Streep hit the red carpet for The Giver’s New York City premiere in the above Dries van Noten jumpsuit—which was actually a red sheer top and black tapered trousers. The top’s embellished black floral appliqués lent an air of glitz to an otherwise simple outfit; the end result was something of a polished effortless cool.
Brava, Ms. Streep. You have our hearts forever.
