Ever since the admittedly perplexing dress code of this year’s upcoming Met Gala was announced, we’ve been anxiously anticipating more news of the star-studded event. This red carpet promises to be in extreme contrast to last year’s punk-themed one, considering the May 5 gala will honor Charles James, the couturier that perfected the ball gown.
It’s no surprise that the most exclusive event of the season booked up quickly: already, designer/date pairings are being released. It’s Met Gala tradition for designers to walk the red carpet with their muses, and this year’s lineup does not disappoint. Prada will be dressing Lupita Nyong’o and Michelle Dockery, Prabal Gurung will outfit February Lucky cover star Zoe Saldana and J. Mendel will dress Taylor Swift, to name a few. Consider us intrigued.
A Met Gala invitation is highly coveted—and comes with a pretty major price tag. With ticket costs recently raised from $15,000 to $25,000 per person, it’s clear that Anna Wintour wants the event to be even more exclusive. In fact, a source told The Hollywood Reporter that "Anna wants more exclusivity and high fashion" at the event. Well, that’s that.
