If you’re Anna Wintour, you can tap whomever you dang well please to open the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newly renovated Costume Institute that now bears your moniker. As expected, Michelle Obama topped of the list of the Vogue EIC’s preferences—and unsurprisingly, Anna Wintour gets what she wants.
The First Lady will cut the ribbon to the new Anna Wintour Costume Center on May 5, the morning of the annual Costume Institute gala. While Obama will be speaking at the ribbon-cutting along with Costume Institute curator Harold Koda and Aerin Lauder (whose brand Aerin is sponsoring the gala), Women’s Wear Daily reports that it is unclear if FLOTUS will also be attending the evening’s ball. But what with the glamorous "white tie and decorations" dress code, we can only hope the First Lady will make an appearance.
