As the First Lady of the USA and the First Lady of Fashion, Michelle Obama and Anna Wintour have no choice but to get along swimmingly (as well as sartorially). At the grand opening of the newly-renamed Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this morning, Obama and Wintour appeared as chummy as ever while cutting the ribbon for the new $40 million wing.
"I’m here today because of Anna," said Obama, who wore a green, embellished floral Naeem Khan dress for the occasion. "I’m so impressed by Anna’s contributions not just to fashion, but to this great museum."
FLOTUS’ heartfelt praise for the iconic editor comes from years of firsthand experience; she’s appeared on the cover of Vogue (twice!) and is championed as a fashion icon herself. Meanwhile, Wintour looked truly happy in front of an audience of her friends and colleagues, which included the likes of Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Victoria Beckham, Sarah Jessica Parker and Donatella Versace.
The cutest part of the morning, however, was definitely an Instagram of the renovated wing from Wintour’s daughter Bee Shaffer, captioned, "Now she’s in a museum?! This is a lot to live up to…".
