If you’re a celebrity, does publicly wearing an item more than once merit celebration? In Michelle Obama’s most recent case, we definitely seem to think so.
At yesterday’s taping of the 32nd annual "Christmas in Washington" concert hosted by Anna Kendrick, the First Lady stepped out in a structured, sparkly and cap-sleeved jacket from J. Mendel’s Resort 2013 collection—which she first wore to a pre-Opening Ceremony reception for the 2012 London Olympics last July. But with a price tag of $6,800, the jacket—and its owner—received a fair amount of criticism because of its price tag.
With a well-known penchant for decently affordable J.Crew and even more affordable Target, Mrs. O was deemed "out of touch" for her surprising J. Mendel choice. But now, the jacket is back and better than ever, especially when paired with that flared, winter white midi skirt.
Other wonderful observations: the five munchkins posing with the Obama family above (who might be the cutest elves ever) are all patients at Children’s National Medical Center, which the concert was benefiting. Additionally, Sasha’s outfit (see below!) is nothing short of sartorial genius—we’re pretty sure those silver oxfords will sell out just as quickly as her unicorn sweater did.
