When I first heard that notoriously expensive shopping site Moda Operandi had slashed most of its spring/summer stock’s prices, I didn’t browse the markdowns right away. Not because I don’t love almost everything the site carries (Charlotte Olympia, Prabal Gurung, Marc Jacobs—what’s not to love?), but because I didn’t want to tease myself with things I can’t afford. After all, 50 percent off stuff in the over $1,000 range is still out of my budget.
Fortunately for my closet, those presumptions were shattered to bits when I finally looked over the discounts late this morning. Sure, I saw the obligatory $20,000 dress slashed down to $10,000 (okay, it’s a $19,690 "leather and Pegasus" gown for $9,845 to be exact), there’s also lots of pieces for less than $500—and $400, $300 and $200! There’s even (this is so insane that I can’t believe I’m typing it!!!) lots of stuff that’s under $100, and not just random little coin purses or socks. We’re talking extra fancy silk tops, the kind of bikinis people pack for luxurious vacations in Santorini and candy-colored statement jewelry. Don’t believe me?
