At last night’s beautiful Narciso Rodriguez show, it was difficult to focus on anything but the slip dresses—because they were just So. Damn. Good. Done in mostly black and white with occasional hits of blood orange and fuchsia, they featured V-shaped panels of color at the bust, and in some cases, highly textural sequined bodices. Rather than presenting florals in mere print form, Narciso made them three-dimensional by using embroidery and wooden paillettes. As for the trio of closing looks, those flowing slips also included completely sheer panels that allowed the models’ black bras to peek through. Many designers have channeled the ’90s this week, but none as well as Narciso.
As for the non-dress options in the collection, the designer offered up some great tailored takes on the track pant, as well as some awesome sleeveless tees that incorporated that same floral embellishment. But when the spaghetti-strapped offerings are this good, why would you want to wear anything else? We didn’t even mind the show’s lack of a Claire Danes cameo.
