“It’s never too early to care about fashion!” declares Karl Lagerfeld in a quote splayed in the corner of a certain magazine spread that’s sure to draw a lot of attention. This, of course, is in reference to one itty-bitty North West, who nabbed her first solo photo shoot for Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book. Lensed by iconic photog Michael Avedon for an editorial called “Legends,” one-year-old “Nori” is wearing Chanel from head-to-toe, including a mini 2.55 quilted bag—just large enough for North to stash a couple Swarovski-embellished pacifiers.
But what’s most interesting, however, is neither North’s tiny diamond studs nor her aforementioned baby-sized handbag. Instead, it’s the notion that Roitfeld labeled North as “The Future”; to Roitfeld, the spawn of Kim Kardashian (excuse me, Kim Kardashian West) and Kanye West is the fashion industry’s prodigal child.
“Karl Lagerfeld sums up our sentiments best—it’s never to early to start,” writes CR Fashion Book. “In this case, we’d agree that 13 months is on the earlier end, but CR predicts a bright fashion future for the already famed daughter of Kanye and past cover star, Kim.”
For the record, I’m not entirely on board with this, but I do have to give it to Roitfeld: North is pretty stinkin’ cute.
