The Scene: A girlishly fun presentation at Pier 59 Studios attended by a chatty, happy crowd. Editors meander in after an earlier appointment with Steven Alan (check out those looks here), delighting in the cheerful music and striking display of color. The guest of honor is 90-year-old Ilona Royce Smithkin—who co-starred in the designer’s Fall/Winter 2011 lookbook—escorted by Ari Seth Cohen of Advanced Style Blog.
The Look: Vibrant eclectic with a touch of kooky granny. The ensembles are definitely for girls inspired by mid-century style: everything looked like it came straight from your favorite consignment shop’s secret back room stash.
Neutrals were a scarcity within the collection; instead, Calter chose to layer bright hues atop each other. Patterned items were equally daring and placed against solid pieces in similar shades. Furry neckwarmers, wrist-length gloves and rectangular clutches finished each outfit, while all the models had artfully tousled hair.
Pieces We Want: One of the few basics we spotted, an tan accordion skirt which will transition seamlessly through the seasons. A pair of wide leg pants in a psychadelic print also won us over. They will require some big heels, but the result is worth the extra effort.
