You know how when Kate Moss wears something simple, like black jeans and a ratty t-shirt, it looks badass just because it’s Kate Moss? I think Olivia Palermo has a similar effect. Something about her cheekbones and eternally fresh blowout instantly ups the fanciness of whatever she’s wearing. (Oh, and then there’s the fact that she was portayed as a total brat on an MTV reality show, so it’s pretty natural to assume she wouldn’t be found shopping the Zaras and H&Ms of the world, but spends all her days in Valentino and Dior instead.)
That said, I don’t think it’s just Olivia-being-Olivia that made this dress above look much more like a Barneys splurge than the fast fashion find it is. Instead, it’s Olivia’s clever styling: adding ladylike ballet flats instead of flimsy sandals, a pretty red bag instead of a more common black or brown one and a studded belt to give the floaty dress some structure. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that dress was a $600 Isabel Marant commitment, not a $67.50 ASOS whim—not because of who’s wearing it, but because of the way she accessorized it. Still, it is a $67.50 ASOS dress, and what’s more, it’s available now. Click through above to shop it and the rest of Olivia’s accessories.
