Orange isn’t the new black: For spring, it’s the new lip. At DKNY, makeup artist Charlotte Willer combined two Maybelline shades—neon red and bright orange—to create the ultimate tangerine. At Prabal Gurung, MAC makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury matched models’ lips to fabrics in the collection, including an exquisite fluorescent apricot.
Orange is a powerful statement—and an optimistic one. "It’s a happy color! Plus it’s pretty on all skin tones, whether you’re pale or dark or have yellower undertones," says Revlon global artistic director Gucci Westman, who created an electric orange shade for Rag & Bone, the brand’s first-ever bold lip. "It had to be something a cool Brooklyn girl would wear," she says. "Pink is too sweet, and red is too pretty; orange feels just right." Glossy or matte, think of orange as you would red: fearless, statement-making and decidedly flirtatious.
