Following in the footsteps of other women’s brands (Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Gucci), Oscar de la Renta just launched a kidswear line.
While the pieces bear the pretty-and-classic hallmark of his ready-to-wear, they also yield to practicality. Instead of poufy silk dresses and jeweled headbands, the girls’ line is filled with more easygoing items, like floral rompers and printed leggings (which are both 100 percent cotton and machine washable).
Boys pieces are equally debonair, yet real life ready (seersucker blazers, liberty print ties, bold colored swimming trunks). It’s all very clean and neat and preppy, without the staid feel of other high-end children’s lines, which can make kids look like they’re about to sit for a portrait or climb into a horse-drawn carriage.
