From March 9 through September 16, the Museé des Arts Décoratifs in Paris will host an exhibition celebrating the life and work of two hugely influential designers: Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs. The latter, of course, is now the artistic director at Vuitton, overseeing all collections and accessories for the handbag-focused French fashion house.
More an analysis than a retrospective, Louis Vuitton – Marc Jacobs will span two floors of the museum space, with Vuitton’s trunks and 19th-century designs on the first and Jacobs’ work for both his namesake brand and Vuitton on the second. Can’t make it to Paris? In honor of the exhibit, Rizzoli is releasing a gorgeous gold-covered book (pictured at left) packed with 300 pages of Marc Jacobs’ and Louis Vuitton’s most noteworthy designs. At $75 (or $100 for the limited-edition version), it’s a pricey volume—but a fraction of the cost of a plane ticket.
Below, check out some of the cool pieces that will go on display when Louis Vuitton – Marc Jacobs opens in March. There are bags, old-timey ads and…is that a foldout Vuitton bed?
