Multitalented entertainer Pharrell Williams is a man of many talents—which include his hat prowess and apparent discovery of the Fountain of Youth, among others. But lately, we’ve been particularly envious of his jewelry game, marked by of strands of remade Chanel pearls and gems strewn around his neck. This gender-bending approach is one that reflects his upcoming, first and unsurprisingly unisex fragrance for Comme des Garçons, called Girl, which will launch in London on Sept. 1.
"There should be no lines—I learned that from Commes des Garçons," Williams told Women’s Wear Daily. "Hence, Girl—for girls and boys. We just found another way to say unisex."
According to WWD, the 41-year-old musician, collaborator and entrepreneur was first inspired to venture into the scent market by Ralph Lauren; Polo by Ralph Lauren became Williams’ go-to cologne from an early age.
But perhaps more importantly, the fragrance business was one in which he was notably absent. When asked why, specifically, he embarked on a fragrance partnership, he said: "For each of our senses there’s an art form: for ears there’s music, for your eyes there’s art, for your nose there’s fragrance, for your taste there is the culinary art, for feeling I say there is love."
Deep stuff there, Williams.
