Roberto Cavalli flew to Japan this week to oversee the opening of his first free standing boutique in the country.
The designer is optimistic about expanding his presence in Asia. "Japan has held its own, it made Prada rich, it made Armani rich, it made Versace rich at one time," he told WWD. "Today it does so to a lesser degree, but I’m convinced that tomorrow it will make Cavalli rich."
During the store’s grand opening, 70 year old Cavalli was in good spirits. "I’m young. I have another 50 years of life,” he told a reporter before estimating that meant he has about 15,000 sexual encounters left in him.
Roberto, if nothing else, certainly knows how to make a splash. Since his famous over-the-top leopard prints require a certain attitude to pull off, we’re interested to to see how he fares in Tokyo. But honestly, with that type of confidence, how can he fail?
