They were the creative force behind Black Swan‘s beautiful ballet costumes; now, Rodarte‘s Mulleavy sisters are taking their talents to the opera world. The pair will be designing the costumes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s new production of Don Giovanni, which will debut on May 18.
"Opera has always been a part of us," the California pair said in a press release. "Our grandmother was from Rome and studied it as a young girl. To be part of the legacy of Don Giovanni is an amazing opportunity."
The designers have signed onto the project alongside acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, who will be creating the production’s set. "Kate and Laura’s work reminds me of my early days," said Gehry. "It is free and fearless and not precious." If the final opera outfits looks anything like the magical Rodarte Spring 2012 dress at left, we’re sure to love it.
