It took them almost a year and a half, but the team at the newly-revived Schiaparelli has finally found a creative director to pick up where the brand’s eponymous founder left off in the ’50s: Marco Zanini. Fresh off his five-year run as Rochas’ head designer (and before that, time at Versace, Halston and Dolce & Gabbana) he’s definitely experienced enough for the job, which includes both creating couture and "pret- à-couture" (basically a fancy term for luxury ready-to-wear) collections. His first line for the label will debut this January during the couture shows.
Although we were kind of hoping that Schiaparelli might offer Christian Lacroix the gig after collaborating with the designer on a special couture show last year, we’re also very interested to see what sort of direction Zanini will take. Considering that Rochas‘ signature ladylike separates are far easier to pull off than the decadent costumes that Lacroix is known for, we’re guessing he’ll aim to balance wearability and wow factor in every piece—hopefully without sacrificing any lobster claws or lip motifs in the process.
