Three may be a trend, but two—at least in our opinion—is a trendlet. And while sheer tops, skirts and panels have been all over the runways these past few seasons, we didn’t expect to see a duo of very different labels introduce clear vinyl outerwear for Spring 2013.
Run-of-the-mill, tourist-approved plastic ponchos these are not. At Friday evening’s Charlotte Ronson show, many models wore see-through versions of the classic varsity jacket. The snap-front toppers—some of which were tinted neon pink or cobalt blue, others left crystal clear—were among the strongest pieces in the collection, and we can’t wait to snatch them up. Meanwhile, Lacoste showed both collared and collarless takes on the raincoat in varying shades of grey, each with a soft, almost frosted finish. The house’s designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista even reworked the brand’s signature polo in transparent plasticky material.
Those who want to get the look right now should consider Terra New York‘s terrific polyurethane rainwear, though several other labels also offer see-through options. Click through to shop them. But guys—just remember to wear something underneath, OK?
