I took my very first SoulCycle class last night—and considering that pretty much every editor, model and general fashion person under the sun has been obsessed with the buzzy, celeb-approved spinning workout for at least a year now, that makes me pretty late to the game. So what finally got me into that studio and onto a bike? In addition to general insistence from Alison and Christa, both Soul vets, yesterday’s ride was of a particularly celebratory nature—it marked the official launch of SoulCycle’s brand-new clothing collaboration with Shopbop. And while I might be new to this craze-creating spinning workout, I’m certainly well acquainted with Shopbop (sorry, credit card).
Shopbop’s first collaboration with a fitness company, the 13-piece limited-edition collection ranges from $48 to $136 and includes hoodies, cropped sweatpants, tees and tanks printed with skulls, wheels and hearts. And with their cheery pops of pink, these pieces would fit right in at any of SoulCycle’s sunny yellow studio spaces (if you’re interested, head here to find a location near you).
As for my thoughts on my inaugural Soul class? Well, let’s just say that when I woke up this morning, I identified more with that little skull logo than the heart one—hello, achy calves! When our instructor asked us to turn up the resistance on our bikes, I definitely faked it a time or two (OK, or 10). And as one of the very few newbies in the 45-minute workout, I couldn’t quite keep up with everyone’s speedy pedal-pushing and "tapping it back." Still, I certainly wouldn’t rule out another go-round (ha, spin pun!)—and the music played during our class, which ranged from heart-pumping dubstep to The Cinematic Orchestra’s "That Home" (a personal favorite) during our cool-down, was top-notch. I can see why people get into it.
