The superhero-inspired nails celebrity manicurist Madeline Poole created at Stella McCartney’s Resort 2015 presentation proved that not all nail art needs to be over-the-top intricate. McCartney’s resort collection featured a lot of bold patterns, so Poole simply "zoomed in on the characters to crop interesting curves and color combinations to make an abstract nail design," she said.
The process was refreshingly uncomplicated: after pushing back the cuticles and polishing the nails with a buffing block, Poole used a range of bold hues, mainly primary colors from Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel and Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear lines. "Once the base coat is dry, draw a semicircle in a contrasting color from one edge of the nail bed three-quarters of the way to the other side—leaving space between your cuticle and the graphic shape," she told Style.com. "Then repeat the same steps on the adjacent finger while you’re waiting for the semicircle to dry."
To see just how easy it is to recreate the look, check out the clip below. We listed the exact shades Poole used in case you want to achieve the exact effect, but the best part about this nail look is that you don’t have to follow the directions to a T—use any mix of cobalt blue, classic red, green, yellow, orange and touches of neutrals like grey and black. The final results are patriotic with a twist—which is perfect for the World Cup, too!
