Noelle Scaggs, the flirty female vocalist of the soul-pop band Fitz and The Tantrums, is our newest style crush. Her fitted blazers, sequined dresses and bold cocktail rings are perfectly feminine and utterly fabulous.
The Denver native, now living in L.A., joined Fitz in 2008 and the six-member band has made quite an impression since. They’ve toured with Maroon 5 and have been named one of VH1’s bands "You Oughta Know." Bandleader Fitz says of Scaggs, "She is not just a backup singer. We have repartee. Onstage, we’re Ike and Tina.” The guitar-less band features keyboards, tambourines, an electric organ and a healthy dose of hand-clapping to back it all up. The sound and performance is reminiscent of classics from Motown but with modern flare. As for their look, the men dress with plenty of sharp suits, skinny ties and fedoras, and Scaggs complements the gents with edgy girliness.
Scaggs draws style inspiration from two very different personalities: Grace Jones and Audrey Hepburn. Seems odd, right? But Scaggs’ wardrobe allows them to coexist in a way that’s got us inspired. If you were to step inside her closet, you’d find plenty of sequins, go-to items like her "Le Foulard" scarves by Eva Taulois and a large collection of sneakers from Adidas and Puma (She told Teen Vogue she’s been collecting them since she was 16!). You’d also find her favorite designer, Helmut Lang, including her newest wardrobe addition: the brand’s "Era Suiting Blazer" in white and a one-of-a-kind David Galan leather bag, which she told the cute lifestyle blog Freutcake she "can’t conceive [her] everyday existence without [it]," and that, since she got it in 2005, "hasn’t left [her] side since then." At last season’s NYFW, Scaggs was seen at the Gerlan Jeans, Betsey Johnson and Falguni & Shane Peacock shows. We hope we see more of her this coming fashion week.
