Tavi Gevinson is a 17-year-old prodigy with a slew of notable occupations, amongst them: high school senior, writer, editor-in-chief, actress, respected fashion commentator and BFF to Lorde. She announced on Twitter this week that come June, Gevinson will be taking her myriad of talents to the Broadway stage in a revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s critically acclaimed 1996 drama This Is Our Youth.
Focusing on three "wealthy, articulate pot-smoking teenagers" living in 1982 on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, This Is Our Youth also stars Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin. Gevinson will play Jessica, an "anxiously insightful" fashion student—which, given her precocious literary background and innate interest in fashion, seems like a perfect casting choice.
The show will begin performances on June 10 at the iconic Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre in Gevinson’s hometown of Chicago before reopening at the Cort Theatre on New York City’s Great White Way in mid-August.
This girl, man—she’s seriously something special, and now she has a burgeoning Hollywood career to further legitimize it.
