I’m so glad to be part of the Levi’s extended family, because I’ve been collecting their new and vintage pieces since I was old enough to go to the store and buy things. Digging through cardboard boxes filled with old jeans might not sound like fun, but it’s my idea of the best, best day ever. The best night ever, though, was this past Wednesday—and incidentally, Levi’s was the responsible for that too.
A party bus picked me up, along with my other Condé Nast homies, to take us to Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm in Long Island City. When we got to the roof, I went straight past the cocktail station (which I rarely do) because I spotted a chicken coop with the most beautiful chickens in it. I know, I didn’t know that chickens could even be beautiful, but these were. One in particular was named Silky and looked like a Muppet Baby.
Luckily, my heart remained intact because chicken was not being served for dinner. The meal was catered by Roberta’s in Bushwick (you can meet me there every other Sunday for Tiki Disco, an outdoor summer dance party!) and was filled with all of the freshest seasonal vegetables. When you’re eating dinner at an actual farm, the term "farm to table" seems more appropriate than ever. We ate a lot, drank a lot and I had some pretty great conversations with other denim lovers.
Now that I’m off the farm and back to city life, I can’t stop thinking about that chicken Silky and if there might be a way to keep livestock as pets in my apartment.
I’ll be hitting the road with Levi’s this summer, too. Stay tuned for more on that trip.
