You guys, this is big news. Entertainment Weekly reports that a full 10 years after Lauren Weisberger’s debut novel The Devil Wears Prada topped international bestseller lists, spawned a major film of the same title and inspired girls across the globe to pursue magazine careers of their own (however ill-advised), the beloved book will finally get a sequel.
Set to be published by Simon & Schuster in April 2013, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns sees protagonist Andy "Ahn-dre-ah" Sachs finding professional success at a bridal glossy eight years after parting ways with her former, formidable boss Miranda Priestly. As luck would have it, Andy’s now BFFs with her Runway ex-coworker Emily and is in the midst of planning her own wedding to media big-shot Max (I guess things between her and Nate/Alex never worked out). But as any Manhattan journalist knows, everyone knows everyone in the publishing industry—meaning Andy is bound to bump into Miranda soon whether she likes it or not. Can’t you hear the telltale clacking of stilettos on marble already?
Since Weisberger’s book won’t hit stores for almost a year, there’s obviously no film adaptation in the works—yet. Call us crazy, but we think this one’s fated for a follow-up film.
