I’m a huge fan of skirts, which means I have to own at least one pair of amazing tights that can withstand a lot of wear and tear. I’ve tried everything, from the dollar-a-pair tights at the pharmacy next door to the soft Wolfords that were so velvety soft I fell asleep in them—but after just a few wears, they all start to snag.
This winter, I found the answer to my legwear problem, and it’s been in my closet for at least two decades: ballet tights. As I was getting ready for class one day, I suddenly realized that these tights were everything I’d been searching for! They somehow last years without running or tearing, despite the abuse I put them through in rehearsal. Plus, they have this magical form-fitting support throughout the whole leg and an amazing control top that isn’t suffocating and won’t do that uncomfortable thing where the top rolls down while you’re sitting at your desk. They’re totally movement-friendly (we ballerinas need to be able to lift our legs above our heads!), and they’re machine washable—I can toss them haphazardly in the washer and dryer and still get every pair back intact.
My favorite ones are the Body Wrappers totalSTRETCH stirrup tights, which are perfect both for work and ballet class. At only $11.25 a pair, you could afford to buy a bunch of them, but you won’t have to, of course, because just one pair will last you forever!
