Since Opening Ceremony‘s name and concept was originally inspired by the Olympics, the cool kids’ chain has big plans during this year’s games. In honor of the festivities (which happen this summer, in London), they’ll be selling a capsule collection of reinterpreted Adidas Originals.
"The idea of Opening Ceremony re-creating Adidas Originals products with their creative sensibility in mind was something that intrigued us," the label’s global creative director, Dirk Schönberger, told WWD. "Once we delved deeper, we discovered Opening Ceremony’s close ties to the idea of the Olympics and with London coming up this year, it was just the perfect fit."
The line will consist of about 100 products, including both clothing (priced from $100 to $630) and footwear ($140 to $325). The first pieces hit opening Ceremony Ceremony and Adidas Original locations early this July and will have a "nineties streetwear attitude."
Although OC founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have been extra busy lately—splitting their time between designing Kenzo and their boutique empire—we think they will majorly come through for this project. After all, they’ll want to outdo Adidas’ last big designer collaboration, which was with Stella McCartney and wildly successful. As for us, we’re just looking forward to an excuse to pack up our heels and wear sneakers everyday.
