It’s barely been a day since the launch of "The Shops at Target"—in-store offshoots of independent boutiques from around the country—and we’re already hearing about the next batch. This morning, the mega chain revealed the second round of pop-ups, including a collaboration with Beth Buccini and Sarah Easley, owners of NYC boutique Kirna Zabête.
Drawing on years of experience selling high-fashion pieces from brands like Proenza Schouler and Rick Owens, Buccini and Easley will design a collection of women’s RTW—priced between $9.99 and $199.99—that reflects their boutique’s selection of designer merchandise. So although the pieces won’t be actual Stella McCartney and Alexander Wang, they’ll have a similar high-end vibe and cost you much, much less.
"We have had them on our radar for some time," a Target spokesman told WWD. "How they edit their assortments coupled with their personalities and the environment of their shops made them a natural. In many ways, it’s pushing the boundaries and introducing the Target consumer to a different side of style."
Although we still plan on stopping by Kirna Zabête to score hard-to-find items from Charlotte Olympia, Dries Van Naten and Proenza Schouler (plus it’s pretty much the only place you can buy Celine in downtown Manhattan), we’re very interested in this lower-priced alternative, too. Since the actual store is more of a "save your money to buy one big thing" kind of place, it will be gloriously fun to afford multiple items at once. Also, since Target just set the bar so high, we can’t wait to see what the other three shops will be. The company plans to announce them throughout this week, on Abullseyeview.com.
