Tory Burch’s fashion empire already stands out against her domestic ready-to-wear and accessory competitors, but that’s just the beginning; by 2015, she plans to totally blow them out of the water.
Following the Tuesday opening of her Munich flagship, the designer has reportedly, according to Women’s Wear Daily, set her sights on four prospective European boutique locations in Milan, Zurich, Frankfurt and Cannes, France—not including a seven-story, 4,400-square-foot Paris flagship, set to open in 2015. And soon, we can even expect to see boutiques in Indonesia and Malaysia later this year.
The just-opened Munich location serves as an excellent indicator of the gilded excess to come on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean; this German flagship features oak and marble floors, gold-leaf light fixtures, mirrored walls and perhaps most pertinently, the largest footwear department across her entire 121 stores.
Last month, news spread that Tory had poached Coach Inc.’s senior vice president of men’s design Jeffrey Uhl to head up both women’s and men’s accessories for a Spring 2015 launch; small leather goods, tech accessories, belts and potentially footwear will be included in the expansion. Then, there’s the activewear line—also set to debut in 2015—which will initially focus on apparel and accessories for yoga, running, golf and tennis. We know, we know—it’s all a lot to take in.
"We’re not that well known in Europe yet, so I think it’s going to take some time," she told WWD. "It’s about finding the right locations…We never wanted to be in a rush; we want to take our time."
