Two months after Cathy Horyn abruptly departed the New York Times, the top-tier position has officially been filled: Vanessa Friedman, the Financial Times‘ longtime fashion editor, will join the New York Times next month as fashion director and chief fashion critic.
This all-encompassing title has incorporated two titles, those of Cathy Horyn and Suzy Menkes, both of whom resigned from the paper this year. As WWD has reported, Vanessa will head worldwide fashion coverage domestically for the Times as well as overseas for the International New York Times.
"Very honoured to follow Cathy Horyn and Suzy Menkes, two extraordinary fashion thinkers, at @nytimes," Vanessa tweeted this morning.
Changes are afoot! We’re looking forward to seeing what Vanessa will do at the Times with this new, special position.
