The Veda presentation at the Hole on Bowery was a chill way to end Day One of fashion week. The dive bar was filled with friends, Bad Girlfriend (the band, not my illicit lover that I’ve never told you guys about) and most awesomely a room full of people wearing really cool motorcycle jackets (myself included, holla!). But the designer of our favorite downtown NY leather-based line, Lindsey Butler, decided to mix it up this season.
"There’s silks, knits and wools," she explained. "It had been four or five seasons of doing just the leather and we found our core and our homebase, but it’s fun to imagine what else you’d wear with it. Also, when we styled our lookbooks we ended up making clothes to do that and liking the way the whole look came out. Everything is really textural; mixing suedes and leathers and crispy leathers with smooth leathers all in the same color palette."
The thing about this collection, which by the way was shown with some Pamela Love originals, is that I can promise you it’s what you’ll want to be wearing come fall. It’s exactly what you should be wearing. There might not yet be a name for this genre, but it’s the very perfect combination of pulled-together-clean-rockery-girly and just plain cool. And now you can take your pick from full short skirts, plaids and perfectly cut slim pants all done in a really pretty muted palette.
My favorite was a blue brocade motorcycle jacket/pant combo, which I’m hoping Lindsay will let me borrow for the Wu Tang show tonight. I have a feeling Rizza will be into it.
Stop by Veda; it’s at 156 Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side.
