The Scene: Leighton Meester and Maria Sharapova both sat front-row at Vera’s show, along with Oscar nominee Viola Davis. Doing a little gown-scouting for the big night, Vi? As for the set itself, it was sharply angular, with steely arches swooping high above the runway entrance.
The Look: For fall, Vera juxtaposed hard with soft and long with short. There were great outerwear options in both camel and grey, which were often paired with snug city shorts and sheer chiffon maxi skirts. The vests and coats were a highlight of the collection, many cut in lush shearling with oversized statement collars or hoods. Continuing with last season’s peplum obsession, Vera buttoned menswear-esque ones (think trouser waistbands with a twist) over skirts and floor-sweeping dresses. And the finale numbers in robin’s-egg blue might have lacked the volume of the designer’s usual black tie fare, but their glittering crystal embellishments turned heads.
Pieces We Want: We’re still thinking about those earth-toned shearling vests, as well as a great charcoal-colored fur cape that appeared halfway through the show.
