Can men and women be friends, or does the sex part always get in the way? Written by Nora Ephron and directed by Rob Reiner, When Harry Met Sally… tells the story of a 12-year-long friendship-turned-romance that tries to answer that age-old question. Popular when it came out, nominated for an Oscar and now considered a classic of the romantic comedy genre, the movie was released 25 years ago today. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since the story of Harry Burns (Billy Crystal) and Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) first opened in theaters, especially since their conversations about men, women and their relationships seem almost as fresh today as they did then. If for some reason the movie seems basic and cliché to you, it’s probably because many of the lines are so incredibly quotable and the scenes so a part of our culture. I picked out 11 of my absolute, always-break-up-laughing-when-I-see-them or need-to-grab-a-tissue parts in honor of the anniversary. Click through the slideshow above to relive the memories.
