Cut25 is the lower-priced counterpart to Yigal Azrouël’s luxe eponymous line. And with its sporty aesthetic and energetic color palette, the contemporary label’s fast built a following of downtown cool girls and celebrities (like our March cover star Ashley Greene). Today, just a year and a half after its launch, Cut25 is getting its very own brick-and-mortar store in the heart of NYC’s Soho neighborhood.
At the celebratory fête last night, we asked the designer where he likes to shop and how that inspired the Cut25 store design. "I really enjoy going vintage and antique shopping, especially at the Chelsea Flea Market," Yigal told us. But he felt the Cut25 store needed a "more modern and minimal look" to reflect the label’s aesthetic, so he went with "clean lines, light wood and angular features" to complement the collection. It makes sense—perusing ultra-girly Miu Miu in a gritty space might be a bit jarring, as would shopping Cut25’s pieces in a space that’s too fussy. Instead, the cleanly tailored separates and bold accessories shine brightest in an understated space.
Another design inspiration for Yigal? “My iPad!” the designer gushed. And perhaps that’s a good tool for those who can’t make it to the NYC flagship and want to browse from home. After all, while the store’s layout might make the shopping experience a little more sensory, the clothes stand perfectly strong on their own.
Click through the slideshow to tour the boutique. With plans to open two more in NYC by the end of the year and up to 10 nationwide by the end of the following year, one might just be coming to a corner near you soon.
