Yesterday, the fashion Twitterverse went wild when International Herald Tribune fashion critic Suzy Menkes wrote that Jil Sander designer Raf Simons was in talks to take over the house of Yves Saint Laurent from current creative director Stefano Pilati.
But now we learn that Simons, whose Jil Sander collections are heralded season after season, is staying put. According to a statement from YSL, Pilati isn’t going anywhere. "Yves Saint Laurent disclaims and regards as unfounded the current rumors concerning the creative direction of the house," said a spokesperson for the brand. "Stefano Pilati continues to dedicate his talent and energies to Yves Saint Laurent and the coming fashion show."
Given Pilati’s financial success at YSL, the news isn’t surprising. (The house, with its well-received collections and killer accessories, performs better now that it ever has in the past.) As for Menkes and her sources, it seems as though Paris fashion gossip might have gone too far…yet again.
