I’ll admit, my knowledge of Brooks Brothers is somewhat limited—though I am quite familiar with its exterior decor, thanks to many a trip to my local Chicago mall. But, that’s all going to change in a matter of months now that fashion people are going to start paying attention to the preppy retailer: it’s tapped Zac Posen as creative director for its women’s collection and accessories.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the new position will feature the 33-year-old designer overseeing Brooks Brothers’ design teams, while also working on brand development and presentation. He will continue to design his own namesake women’s collection, which he launched in 2001.
“We want to better ourselves and have another point of view,” Claudio Del Vecchio, chairman and chief executive officer of Brooks Brothers, told WWD. “We already have a team in place, so he’s not going to be a designer, but a creative director. He’s someone we trust and admire for what he does, and he can add to what we’re already doing.”
While Posen’s signature gowns are, logically, out of the question for Brooks Brothers, we can surely expect that his famous vintage silhouettes will make a prominent appearance in the brand’s future designs.
